The "Justas" of Hospital de Órbigo

The Medieval Joust of the Passo Honrosso, declared of Tourist Interest of Castilla y León , recall the feats of Don Suero de Quiñones by XV century there. Don Suero de Quiñones wanted to do a promise that had realised towards his lover Leonor and that consisted of no to eat on Thursdays and takin an iron hook in the neck.
Thus, to end his commitment, one seted out to break 300 lances of the foreign horsemen who happened throught his bridge. It's goal wasn't fullfilled, although being broken only 166 lances, the judges in charge to raise it's pain.
Since then, once a year, the first weekend of June, Hospital de Órbigo remembers that one day. The match of joust is the central act, is a parade of banners, is stroll with horses, there's a medieval market, games and traditional music.

  1. Hi, I'm Lori from Harvard Extension School. This festival sounds like so much fun! (well, maybe not for the jousters, but certainly for the spectators) I had never heard of it before, but I would love to see it someday.

One note: instead of saying "to do a promise," it makes more sense in English to say "to keep a promise."
