Rookies Time!


When you are at first year at University, students from higher years organize proofs and drinking games for the rookies.
They do this to have a good time and meet everyone.
If you do not obey them, they force you to drink more or do something ridiculous.
It is a really good experience as you have fun and you do new friendships.

"Cocido de Castrillo de los Polvazares"


If you stay in Leon just for a little time, you will hear about a delicious meal called "Cocido".
The one from Castrillo de los Polvazares is really famous because this little village is all made of stone.
"Cocido" is a really big meal and it usually has three courses:
At first you have a delicious and hot soup.

Then you can eat any type of meat you want:


Chorizo, bacon grease, veal...
And last but not least, you can taste chickpeas with cabbage.
As a dessert, if you still have space in your belly, you can have Natillas, like Ronaldinho.





"Ancas de Rana de La Bañeza"


A typical food of Leon, specially of a town called La Bañeza, are “ancas de rana”.
This course is made of frog legs with a really good sauce made of onion, red pepper, garlic, parsley, chilly and paprika.
There are many people that don't eat them because they think eating frogs is awful, but every single one who tastes them say that “ancas de rana” are very very good, specially the sauce.
If you want to prove new things come and discover them!!

"Cecina de León"



If you want to taste a delicious, delicious food, you must try "Cecina de León".
Cecina is like ham but made of beef. It's beef cured ham. 
It's not difficult to prepare it. You'll need:
A sharp knife
Cecina
A little bit of oil
It's really simple and you'll think you're in heaven when you're eating it.


"El Tapeo"



In Leon, it's tipical to go out with your friends. Usually when you don't have lots of things to do you go to different bars and in each one you drink a "corto". A "corto" is a small glass , usually of beer, but you can ask for any type of drink. With this small glass the waiter gives you a small dish with different kind of food, called "tapa" like:
Croquettes
Chips
Mussels
Pies...
It`s a really rooted custom here in Leon, it's tipical at weekend nights but you can "tapear" every day you want and everyone who visits the city goes out to "tapear".

The "Justas" of Hospital de Órbigo


 



The Medieval Joust of the Passo Honrosso, declared of Tourist Interest of Castilla y León , recall the feats of Don Suero de Quiñones by XV century there. Don Suero de Quiñones wanted to do a promise that had realised towards his lover Leonor and that consisted of no to eat on Thursdays and takin an iron hook in the neck.
Thus, to end his commitment, one seted out to break 300 lances of the foreign horsemen who happened throught his bridge. It's goal wasn't fullfilled, although being broken only 166 lances, the judges in charge to raise it's pain.
Since then, once a year, the first weekend of June, Hospital de Órbigo remembers that one day. The match of joust is the central act, is a parade of banners, is stroll with horses, there's a medieval market, games and traditional music.
